Saved to Serve

My friend just loaned me the book Passion for the Heart of God, by John Willis Zumwalt. The central idea is that God established us as a church to be His instruments to bring more people to Him. Zumwalt points out that the whole reason God chose Israel was so it could be a nation of priests to other nations, to help them come to God too. In fact, the covenant God made with Abraham encompassed all the nations, but it seems Israel often lost sight of the other nations. The same that was true of Israel is now true of the Church - the chosen people of God in this day to be a nation of priests, blessed to be a blessing to the nations.

Our salvation is not for us alone. It is not simply so we can be on right terms with God, but so we can help bring more and more people into the kingdom of God.

Come cleanse us like a flood and Send us out

So the world may know You reign, You reign in us -
