Chapter Four...Portrait of a Woman Used By God

The fourth chapter of Biblical Womanhood, is written by Nancy Leigh DeMoss. She expounds on characteristics of Mary, Jesus' mother. Mary was an ordinary woman God used for His purposes. She was pure, humble, trusting, submissive. She understood that God spoke to her husband to lead her and her family (i.e. when God told Joseph to take them to Egypt to escape King Herod).
DeMoss pointed out that at times we women can feel that we are more spiritually prepared to lead than our husbands or the men in our lives are. But if we try to take control instead of trusting God to teach them how to lead, then we rob men of the motivation to "fulfill their God-given calling to provide leadership for their families and for the family of God..." This is interesting and a point I wanted to draw more attention to in my last post. When women usurp men's role as leaders, men feel (understandably) displaced. If women focus on fulfilling their own role, and don't try to take charge (even if it seems the men aren't going to step up), and if women show respect to the men in their lives, the men are more empowered to lead. But when women take over, men don't have to lead and they end up unmotivated and undermined. I will never forget something my friend in Russia told me about the decline of men and the drastic increase of alcohol addiction among men in Russia since Communism. Women began taking charge in the country, displacing men. This displacement caused depression among men and led to a dramatic dependence upon alcohol. And we know what other problems follow. Russia is a country now that is full of thousands of social orphans - kids who have living parents, but parents who have abandoned their children because of poverty, drug and alcohol abuse, etc. And America isn't that far behind if you take a look at our foster system. We've got to get back to the root of the problem - repair the family at the very core. If this next generation of families is going to live any different, we have to start NOW to take our place in our homes, submit to our husbands, and trust God to lead them - and help them to step up and take their place as leaders.

This is something my mom has always told me... "don't try to change or lead your husband." This is hard for me b/c I do think that sometime the Lords prepares me for things before he does J. I am a very impatient person and so I get a bit frustrated when J drags his feet. I am constantly having to remind myself that God's timing will be perfect and that my husband will lead me.
